After the Covid lockdowns, we were lucky enough to be able to ‘grasp the dream’: we moved to one of the most beautiful (& seldom visited) areas of Scotland and opened a writing retreat. We work as a retreat for individuals – where you can book our accommodation alone or with friends and use our fantastic self-catering facilities – or for taught retreats, specialising in the outdoors and writing about and with nature.
I also teach creative writing in small Zoom classes. Drop me a line if you’d like to make an enquiry about the waiting list. I try to keep three levels of class going: beginners, covering all craft skills needed to gain the confidence to begin a novel or short story collection; intermediate, to take your ideas to the stage where you’re ready to submit to an agent or perhaps even a publisher; and advanced, a class for those who have significant industry experience or who have – at the very minimum – finished a full-length novel. The advanced class is one I put together because, as a novelist, you’re often helping other people, teaching, or talking about your books, but it’s hard to find something to ‘top you up’ and give you motivation.
